What is TownSpout?

TownSpout is an ephemeral, anonymous, chat application based by location. All content posted is removed in 24 hours.

TownSpout is available for both Android and iOS.


Is TownSpout free?

Yes, the application is free of charge.


Do iOS and Android users see the same content (cross-platform)?

Yes.


How can I use TownSpout?

You can sign in via Google, Apple (iOS >= 13), or register via email through TownSpout.


I can’t post or reply after I signed in without registering

If you signed in without registering, you can view and vote on Posts/Replies, but you cannot create a Post or Reply.


If TownSpout is anonymous, why must I register?

Registration is only used for verification purposes to cut down on abuse. However you register, that information is only stored as anonymous user information. All posts made are anonymous and another user is not provided any identifiable information about any other user.


How do I change my password because I forgot it or just want to change it?

On the login page, enter your username into the “Email” field. Under the password field, tap on the “Forgot/Reset Password” text. A reset email will be sent to you.


How do I get a listing published on the Local or Global listings page?

What does TownSpout do with my information?

The basic information you provide to TownSpout is stored for user verification purposes as long as you are registered.

Your information is not distributed to third-parties by TownSpout/Rechor. If you are verified via Google/Apple, we cannot speak for how your information is handled on their end, if at all. You can visit their policies below:

A thread or comment on TownSpout is harassing me, what should I do?

If the issue constitutes a crime, you should contact your local law enforcement agency and report it, especially if the content contains threats of violence.

You can also report it for review. All reports will be responded to within 24 hours. See the Report page for more information.

You can also hide the content and block the user by long-tapping on the content and then tapping “Hide (Thread) (Reply) (Listing).”

You can block a user by long-tapping on their content and then tapping “Block User.” To block a Thread poster, inside the Thread tap the three dots in the upper-right corner and then tap “Block Poster.”

This information can be found under the “About/Help” section in the app.


I blocked a user but it appears that user is still showing. Why?

There are a number of reasons for this:

  1. It may be another user – Spammers tend to have more than one account. Report any Thread where SPAM accounts appear to be posting so those accounts can be terminated.
  2. It may be the same person with a different account – Report any Thread where this person appears to be posting if a Rule violation exists or block that account as well.
  3. You may have cleared or reinstalled the app – The blocking occurs at the client level (your device filters it out). If you deleted and reinstalled the app, the user is likely no longer blocked by your device. Block the user again and the changes will take effect.

The number of Replies is different than what I see in the Thread…why?

You may have blocked a user that has replied in that thread.


What information does TownSpout collect from me?

We only collect the information you use to register for TownSpout, and this information is only retained in the database for the life of the account. General information is collected from Posts/Replies including the user ID number, IP address, date/time, and content posted. This information is stored only within the main database and is attached to each individual Post or Reply. This information is deleted with the Post/Reply as well and is not retained anywhere else.

I tried logging in via Google and nothing happened – why (Android)?

Be sure your Google Play services is updated to the latest version. You can find instructions on how to do that here.


Can I delete my TownSpout account?

Yes – you will find the “Delete Account” button under Settings. Once you opt to delete your account, it will be deleted within 24 hours.


I requested an account deletion but my account still exists, why?

If you attempted to delete your account, it should be removed within 24 hours. If it is not, your IP address may have been blocked by the third-party email API and your email was not received. This is not a common occurrence, but if it does happen, send an email to info@townspout.com from the email address associated with your account.


The app is saying I am banned from posting. Why?

We reserve the right to ban abusive users on TownSpout. If you were banned, it is likely because you violated one or more Rules.

The app is saying my IP address is blocked – why?

Your IP address may be blocked due to rule violations. See the Rules page for more information.
